Professional Development Plan
Career
To begin my occupational therapy career, I am interested in starting in pediatric acute care in an inpatient setting. I hope to stay in an inpatient setting for as long as I can and then expand into outpatient and home health care settings. The end goal in my career is to open my own occupational therapy practice or explore nonclinical options.
Capstone Experience
For my doctoral capstone project, I partnered with Project SEARCH (PS) and the Exceptional Student Association (ESA) at Xavier University. PS supports young adults ages 18–22 with intellectual or developmental disabilities in developing the skills needed for competitive employment. The program collaborates with the ESA, a group of neurotypical Xavier students, to foster mentor–mentee relationships and promote the development of life skills for all participants. Throughout my project, I worked closely with both groups to help bridge the gap between general education and special education students at the collegiate level and to promote meaningful inclusion.
